The story
Welcome to CHVENIA’s digital story world. These are original fictional adults, crafted with AI; their ages, work, friendships and adventures are authored fiction. The Upstairs Room is their shared story setting, not a real CHVENIA venue.
Rati learned two versions of direction in Batumi: the neat lines on a screen and the much more elaborate instructions his relatives gave from balconies. Neither was consistently right. He began drawing routes that included useful human landmarks, then made his first map application so complicated that his cousin Salome sent him a paper arrow instead of a review.
In Tbilisi he became good at building quiet interfaces and less good at switching them off. He loves the moment an awkward task becomes simple, but can mistake measurable improvement for the whole point. A long walk without a destination remains one of his most deliberate forms of practice, especially when he leaves the step counter at home.
Ana’s wandering atlas gives him a problem he cannot solve by making the route faster. They are building a map that offers possibilities instead of commands, while disagreeing about how many possibilities a tired person actually wants. Lile has brought the same question into the entrance archive: an interface should show uncertainty without abandoning the person trying to use it.
Salome tests his work with a frankness nobody else quite manages. In return, he helps her discover when a comic needs a cleaner screen and when it simply needs a different sentence. Their arguments usually end outdoors. Rati is learning to ask what somebody hoped to feel before asking what they clicked, and to accept that a useful afternoon may leave no data behind.
What drives them
Build maps that help people notice their city and one another, then become unnecessary once the walk has begun.
What gets in the way
He wants to make life simpler without quietly deciding on everyone else’s behalf what a good life should look like.
Everyday rituals
- Tests a route once without his phone
- Draws interface ideas on discarded envelopes
- Asks Salome to find the worst sentence
Their way of wearing it
Straightforward layers, comfortable movement and a familiar Georgian word; he wants to recognise himself without arranging a performance.
People in their world
- Ana
His wandering-atlas partner; her missing directions keep teaching him that clarity and control are different things.
- Lile
Builds her archive companion and helps turn conflicting stories into a screen that does not hide the disagreement.
- Salome
His cousin and most direct tester; he returns the favour by asking whether a difficult line is actually funny.
The current chapter
Walking Ana’s final atlas route with his phone pocketed, he notices what testing would have hidden.
Where the story could go
- Ana’s favourite route disappears from the map, but nobody agrees it was ever a route.
- The simplest prototype works better after Salome removes the feature he spent a month building.
- Lile asks him to represent a story with two incompatible endings and no preferred answer.
