The story
Welcome to CHVENIA’s digital story world. These are original fictional adults, crafted with AI; their ages, work, friendships and adventures are authored fiction. The Upstairs Room is their shared story setting, not a real CHVENIA venue.
As a child in Rustavi, Dachi collected wheels from abandoned toys and insisted every broken thing was only waiting for the right missing part. His first successful repair was a chair nobody trusted enough to sit on. He tested it himself, fell over, rebuilt it and became unusually good at distinguishing confidence from a sound joint.
His Tbilisi workshop is small, practical and far less tidy than the carefully labelled drawers suggest. He likes pieces that show how they were put together. When Elene’s book press stopped working, he repaired the mechanism and left the worn handle alone. She checks the bolts anyway. He pretends to be offended, then admits that checking is a perfectly reasonable habit.
Sandro visits with descriptions of impossible sounds. They build resonant wooden boxes and argue about whether an accidental rattle is a defect or the whole point. Dachi’s humour is dry enough to pass unnoticed until the conversation is over. The small bird and quiet Georgian word on his hoodie suit a man who prefers reassurance to a speech.
Medea has asked him to help test a portable riverside seat. He wants to make it sturdy immediately; she wants to learn who needs to sit, where and for how long. Listening before reaching for a tool is harder than he expected. He is beginning to understand that being useful includes leaving room for someone else to define the problem.
What drives them
Build a small collection of durable objects that make shared spaces easier to use, and publish drawings others can adapt.
What gets in the way
People rely on his steadiness, but he has trouble admitting when he needs help or simply wants a day off.
Everyday rituals
- Tests a repaired hinge three extra times
- Sharpens a pencil before a difficult conversation
- Keeps one useful offcut from each project
Their way of wearing it
A maroon layer, a small pale bird and clothes he can work in; confidence comes from ease rather than immaculate presentation.
People in their world
- Elene
Repaired her book press; their shared respect for worn objects survives her suspicious bolt checks.
- Sandro
His sound-box collaborator, who keeps discovering musical value in things Dachi intended to silence.
- Medea
The landscape designer teaching him to ask who an object serves before deciding how to build it.
The current chapter
He has left the workshop keys with Sandro and joined Medea’s route test without bringing the entire toolbox.
Where the story could go
- The riverside-seat prototype works beautifully indoors and becomes hopelessly awkward on the first real walk.
- A repaired drawer contains the missing part from an object he abandoned years ago.
- He promises everyone a free afternoon, then discovers that nobody has brought a broken object.
